CDT Helps Lower the High Costs Resulting from Workplace Substance Abuse
According to the National Institute for Drug Abuse (NIDA), substance abuse costs American businesses over $100 billion annually in lost productivity, increased absenteeism, on-the-job injuries, and high Workers Compensation premiums. This is particularly true in industries with safety sensitive positions such as transportation, construction, mining, manufacturing, foodservice and wholesale. The cost in human life is also staggering. The NIDA and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), report that up to 40 percent of the nation's workers who die on the job test positive for alcohol or other drugs.
Employers who want to protect their most valuable asset---their workers---turn to CDT to administer their Drug Free Workplace Programs. We process over 160,000 drug tests annually, and maintain membership in many standard-setting professional societies, including the Substance Abuse Program Administrators Association (SAPAA) and the Drugs and Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA). Our drug and alcohol testing and compliance services have helped employers to:
- Maintain DOT and OSHA regulatory compliance
- Improve morale and productivity, and decrease absenteeism, accidents, downtime, turnover, and theft.
- Improve health status among employees and family members and thereby decrease the use of medical benefits by these same groups, and
- Qualify for incentives, such as decreased costs for workers’ compensation and other kinds of insurance
